Rating: 86% Review: Planet Of Cartmans is an interesting premise, to say the least. As I mentioned in the description, it envolves Kenny being isolated on a planet of Cartman clones. He is armed with several different weapons, ranging from your infinite-but-weak "Blaster" gun to bazookas and shotguns, all of which you pick up as you go through the game. POC starts out fairly easy, with the first act not providing much of a challenge whatsoever. However, the first few levels really are just to get you used to the game - as the difficulty takes a steep turn almost as soon as the second act begins. Granted, most of the game's challenge lies within the fact that many platforms are just filled with craploads of Cartmans who could kill you instantly. Still, some levels do provide some challenging puzzles for the player to complete, and the ocassional change of gameplay (such as in the spaceship level) is always welcome. Graphically, POC rarely has a bare one-colour wall. Everything has depth and detail every section you turn, and even though Junkman can hardly take credit for the graphics in this game (most of which are from C&C's graphic packs), it's still nice to see some detailed graphics in a SP Game. The first act reminded me of Terminator 2's intro, with the dark, destrection of the city in the background, and random masses of rocks in the foreground. There's never a section in this game that makes you want to gouge your eyes out with a fork... but then again, is there ANY game with graphics like that? tongue.gif Planet Of Cartmans will definately provide for anyone who likes a challenge in their games. The cutscenes in the later levels are a good enough reason to want to complete this game, as they are just a plain joy to watch. Still, don't ask me what happens in the closing cutscene - as the final boss is practically impossible to complete. From the ones I did see, though, the storyline & characters are faithful to the show, so any hardcore South Park fans will definately appreciate them... although the basic premise of why there's a planet filled with Cartman clones in the first place still has yet to be explained. So, overall - if you're expecting an engaging storyline, this game will probably leave you feeling a little unfuffilled. If you're expecting enthralling gameplay... it's really a 50/50 thing. While the basic "shoot everyone and get to the end" concept seems to be the basis of this game, it still has some challenging elements that most gamers will enjoy. However, the game still lacks some of Junkman's usual mind-numbing puzzles we've all grown used to. Having said that, though - I can say that this game is still well above average for a South Park Game, and is a must have for everyone's collection. For what it lacks in some aspects, it more than makes up for by just being a really fun game that you can't help but enjoy. If you haven't played this classic SPG, I recommend you slap yourself across the head then go download it immediately. Stanster Oct 24 2004, 04:57 AM Game: Planet of Cartmans Creator: Junkman Genre: Platformer Description: The most blatantly anti-Cartman game of all time! Weapon-packed experience. Rating: 89% Review: Some days, there is nothing more wonderful than blowing away fat kids with high-powered weaponry. And those days are those that end in Y. Planet of Cartmans is easily one of the most recognized games in SPG - and one that definitely rocketed Junkman to his high position within SPG. Love Cartman or hate him, you can't deny that this game is a marvel. The enemies are incredibly varied - they wield everything from zombie teeth to blasters to rocket launchers to flamethrowers. There are also lots of traps - spikes and pits abound, electric fences, strong winds, and more. You wouldn't know by playing it, but this game uses a modified version of the default platform engine. Despite the limited technology that the engine is based on, the character movement doesn't have a hitch. Also, the enemy AI is based on the same platform engine - which allows for enemies that climb stairs, fall down chasms, and appear from above to ambush you. There are a handful of powerful weapons - the blaster is weak, but its automatic form can be upgraded! The rocket launcher is very powerful - one blast will most likely kill you if you get caught in the explosion. The game's story is no GREAT work of art, but Junkman spent a lot of time ensuring that the game flows smoothly. Even this heartless bastard shed a tear at the scene with Kenny and the presumedly deceased Stan. The game is VERY difficult, as is par for the course with Junkman games. However, there are level passwords and infinite lives, which means you WILL eventually be able to beat it. Deaths aren't really that cheap, either - I have yet to have died in a case that was unavoidable (though the spikes are a pain in the ass!) The graphics are a mixture of Clickteam library graphics and moderate-to-very good sprites. This is POC's only real weakpoint (besides the difficulty), but after playing a couple of levels, you forget for a while that some of the graphics aren't original - they're implemented very well. And finally - THE MUSIC. Listening to this game's soundtrack is like your ears having sex with the most beautiful object of your desire! No exaggeration. Sometimes, I'd sit at the beginning of a level just to hear the music! Luckily, Junkman has released the great music online, so no more wasting time! All in all, this game BELONGS in everybody's hard drive.
